OBJECTIVES
The primary role of the General Motors Upfitter Integration group is to provide technical assistance to the hundreds of upfitters in the field who regularly modify our Light and Medium Duty Trucks for a wide variety of commercial applications. The assistance could be in the form of anything from an electrical schematic to guidelines for lengthening a frame rail.
To assist with providing information to upfitters, we maintain an up-to-date website (www.gmupfitter.com) that includes detailed Body Builder Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Best Practices Manuals.
Our secondary role is to act as a liaison between the upfitter and/or end customer and several other GM organizations, such as Engineering, Marketing, and Service. Our interface role with these other groups is often required when (1) a technical solution is not obvious and in-depth Engineering investigation is required or (2) a product feature that is required is not available and needs to be added by Marketing or (3) a new service calibration needs to be developed and made available by GM Service. Upfitter Integration's ultimate goal is to help the upfitter deliver the highest quality vehicle possible, thereby improving overall customer satisfaction. We have three main resources to accomplish this main objective:
HOTLINES
Upfitter Integration maintains a Hotline service that can be accessed via (1) toll-free telephone number at 1-800-875-4742 or (2) on-line request form by clicking here at Hotline Question Request. Once a
Case is received by the Upfitter Integration coordinator, it will be screened for export compliance issues. You may be asked to answer a few questions about the vehicle and the scope of the upfit if you are non-US based or your issue raises possible concerns about export compliance. The case will then be forwarded to the appropriate electrical or mechanical Technical Liaison Engineer in our group.
Specific requests for Math Data can be expedited if you use the on-line request form by clicking here at Math Data Request.
We typically provide 48 hour response time on cases unless we are experiencing an abnormally high case load. This does not mean a solution will always be available within 48 hours. However, we will be actively working on your case in pursuit of an answer whether we have to consult with another GM group, check a drawing, review a physical mock-up property, etc.. Be assured that getting your vehicle up and running in a timely manner is our number one goal.
PUBLICATIONS
Body Builder Manuals
The Light and Medium Duty Body Builder Manuals that are published by Upfitter Integration contain a wide range of technical information, including electrical schematics, body and frame dimensions, exhaust system modification, etc..

Technical Bulletins
Technical Bulletins provide up-to-date information on issues that
come up during the model year. These issues require a more immediate
distribution of technical information than the annual Body Builder
Manuals can provide. The need for a technical bulletin may be
driven by one of the following:
- Mid-year design change to the vehicle that affects
upfitter modifications
- Information from a GM Service Bulletin that specifically
affects upfitter modifications
- Frequent submissions to our Hotline involving one particular
issue that many upfitters encounter

Best Practices
The Best Practices Manuals provide recommended guidlelines that should be followed when modifying a vehicle. These guidelines generally reflect industry recognized processes and procedures that are intended to help the upfitter maintain the safety, reliability, and integrity of the vehicle original design, as well as comply with any state, federal, or industry requirements.

TRADE SHOW & NEW PRODUCT PREVIEW SUPPORT
One of the best ways for Upfitter Integration
to reach the upfitter community is to recognize and support the
upfitter industry's professional associations, such as:
NTEA - National
Truck Equipment Association
RVIA - Recreational
Vehicle Industry Association
SEMA - Specialty
Equipment Market Association
NMEDA - National
Mobility Equipment Dealers Association
We attend their conferences, tradeshows, and committee meetings
as representatives of GM Engineering.
We also allow these associations to have access to our new truck
products via Product Preview Shows. Product Preview invitations
are issued through the upfitter associations for companies to come
to our facility in Warren, Michigan to consult with GM Design Engineers,
fit test parts, and make physical measurements (portable CMM allowed)
on vehicles before Start of Regular Production (SORP).
