Mission Statement

The primary role of the General Motors Upfitter Integration group is to provide technical assistance to the hundreds of upfitters in the field who regularly modify our vehicles for a wide variety of commercial applications. The assistance could be in the form of anything from an electrical schematic, to providing dimensional data, or guidelines for lengthening a frame rail.


To assist with providing information to upfitters, we maintain an up-to-date website that includes detailed Body Builder Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Best Practice Manuals.


Our secondary role is to act as a liaison between the upfitter and/or end customer and several other GM organizations, such as Engineering, Marketing, and Service. Our interface role with these other groups is often required when (1) a technical solution is not obvious and in-depth Engineering investigation is required or (2) a product feature that is required is not available and needs to be added by Marketing or (3) a new service calibration needs to be developed and made available by GM Service.


Upfitter Integration's ultimate goal is to help the upfitter deliver the highest quality vehicle possible, thereby improving overall customer satisfaction.

Public Venues

One of the best ways for Upfitter Integration to reach the upfitter community is to recognize and support the upfitter industry's professional associations, such as:


NTEA - National Truck Equipment Association
RVIA - Recreational Vehicle Industry Association
SEMA - Specialty Equipment Market Association
NMEDA - National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association

We attend their conferences, tradeshows, and committee meetings as representatives of GM Engineering.


We also allow these associations to have access to our new truck products via Product Preview Shows. Product Preview invitations are issued through the upfitter associations for companies to come to our facility in Warren, Michigan to consult with GM Design Engineers, fit test parts, and make physical measurements (portable CMM allowed) on vehicles before Start of Regular Production (SORP).
